Trio-Tech International announces financial results.

SAN FERNANDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1995--Trio-Tech International announced that both sales and operating profits for the company's first quarter have shown significant improvement compared with the same period one year ago.

Sales increased 39 percent and gross profits improved to 35 percent from 32 percent for the same quarter of fiscal 1994. Primary earnings went from 3 cents per share to 8 cents per share.

Testing volume in Malaysia increased significantly. This contributed to the higher profits received by the minority interest. The Batang Kali operation in Malaysia has negotiated a new contract for the assembly of seven segment display components and light- emitting diodes (LED). Production is expected to commence by December.

In July 1995, the company became the majority shareholder of Wuhan Golden Petroleum Co. Ltd. (WGP), its joint venture in China, by acquiring an additional 11 percent of shares. The accounts of WGP have been consolidated into the results of this quarter. The company also reported that this operation has been profitable since the commencement of production almost one year ago.

Sales for the U.S. Operation decreased slightly this quarter compared with the first quarter of fiscal 1994; this led to lower gross profits. However, the company believes that the next quarter will improve.

Trio-Tech's operation in Ireland reported a healthy sales growth of 39 percent this quarter compared with the same quarter last year. As a result of higher sales, both gross profits and net profits showed marked improvement.

The company's outlook for the next quarter remains good. Trend analysis indicates that performance for its second quarters traditionally are strong. Trio-Tech believes that the next quarter will therefore continue this trend.

The company announced that at its recent board meeting, F.D. ``Chuck'' Rogers, managing director of H.J. Meyers & Co. Inc., consented to be its seventh director. -0-
