Costs and Development Risks While Accelerating Time-to-Market

Trillium Digital Systems Inc., an Intel company and leading provider of communications software solutions, today announced at SUPERCOMM 2001 the availability of two new 3G wireless software that decrease development time and risks for converging wireless and IP networks.

The new software protocol stacks consist of the Radio Access Network Application Protocol (RANAP) software and the latest version of Trillium's General Packet Radio Service (GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations. ) Tunneling Protocol (GTP) software. Trillium's standards-based RANAP and GTP portable software are provided off-the-shelf to lower overall development and maintenance costs and result in shorter time-to-market.

Trillium's high-performance RANAP and GTP work with almost any operating system or processor. Because these new protocol stacks are built on the Trillium Advanced Portability Architecture (TAPA(R)), they can be easily integrated with other Trillium protocol software.

This interoperability enables wireless equipment manufacturers, wireless infrastructure companies and Internet infrastructure equipment providers to customize solutions that speed development of next-generation product offerings.

"Trillium's off-the-shelf wireless protocol software has proven to be a great choice for us, and has enabled us to meet the needs of our customers in a timely and cost-effective manner," said Mark Demange, vice president of engineering at AirNet Communications. "The portability, reliability and ease of configuration of Trillium software allows us to focus our engineering resources on providing differentiated and high value-added solutions to our customers."

RANAP portable software is used for the development of Radio Network Controllers (RNCs) for 3G wireless networks. It is the Radio Network Layer signaling protocol for the Iu interface, which is the interface between the radio access network and the core network.

RANAP also handles signaling between RNC RNC Republican National Committee (US)
RNC Republican National Convention
RNC Radio Network Controller
RNC Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (provincial police force)
and 3G Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN SGSN Serving GPRS Support Node ) on the Iu-Packet Switch (PS) interface, and between RNC and 3G Mobile Switching Interface (MSC (1) (MSC.Software Corporation, Santa Ana, CA, www.mscsoftware.com) Founded in 1963 by Richard H. MacNeal and Robert G. Schwendler, MSC is the world's largest provider of mechanical computer aided engineering (MCAE) strategies, simulation software and services. ) on the Iu-Circuit Switch (CS) interface. It also provides the signaling channel to transparently pass messages between user equipment and the core network.

The GTP portable software provides signaling and data transfer procedures that define the protocol between the General Packet Radio Service Support Nodes (GSNs) within the GPRS and Universal Mobile Telecommunications System

Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is one of the third-generation (3G) cell phone technologies. Currently, the most common form uses W-CDMA as the underlying air interface, is standardized by the 3GPP, and is the European answer to the ITU

GTP specifies a tunnel control and management protocol that allows the SGSN to offer GPRS services for a mobile phone or a modem. In addition to SGSN, the GTP software is used to develop Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN GGSN Gateway GPRS Serving/Support Node
GGSN Gateway General Support Node (packet radio service)
    GGSN Gateway Gprs Support Node

), which interfaces with the network operator's billing system.

"Trillium's high-reliability software helps customers accelerate time-to-market by providing easily modifiable protocol stacks to address users' specific needs," said Larisa Chistyakov, CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. See CIO and salary survey.  for Trillium Digital Systems. "Our RANAP and GTP offerings are just two ways Trillium is helping wireless equipment manufacturers seamlessly integrate standards-based communications software."
