NATICK, Mass. -- In its most recent white paper, Trigent examines trends in the adoption of ASP.NET, and provides guidelines guidelines,

for selecting the migration approach that best meets specific business needs.

Trigent also offers insight into how to initially assess the complexity of a potential migration effort, with its "ASP.NET Complexity Indicator".

Moving applications to the .NET framework offers businesses a variety of benefits, including enhanced performance, scalability, interoperability The capability of two or more hardware devices or two or more software routines to work harmoniously together. For example, in an Ethernet network, display adapters, hubs, switches and routers from different vendors must conform to the Ethernet standard and interoperate with each other.  and ease of maintenance. For some businesses those benefits may be best realized through a comprehensive migration, but for many others an incremental Additional or increased growth, bulk, quantity, number, or value; enlarged.

 approach is more suitable.

"Depending on the particular benefits that are most critical to the business, the complexity of their current code base, the strategic value perceived in moving to .NET and the desired timeframe for results, there are a variety of approaches companies can take to achieve their goals in migrating to ASP.NET," said Tim Kinslow, Practice Manager at Trigent.

Trigent's white paper details how these factors contribute to determining the best migration approach, and outlines the main phases of a migration with guidelines for the percentage of overall project effort that should be allocated to each.

"Organization don't have to take an 'all or nothing' approach to moving to the .NET framework. Many businesses are pursuing migration strategies that will allow them to begin leveraging some of the major benefits of .NET in the short-term, such as managed code and Web services (1) Loosely, any online service delivered over the Web. Such usage appears in articles from non-technical sources, but not in IT-oriented publications, because definition #2 below describes the correct use of the term. , while positioning them to further build on the platform in the future," Kinslow concluded.
