This is a fully PC 97 standards-compliant, single-chip device embracing all the latest PC power management initiatives.

The Omega82C196 meets all Microsoft PC97, Intel Yenta, ExCA, JEIDA (Japanese Electronic Industry Development Association) A Japanese trade and standards organization. JEIDA joined with PCMCIA to standardize the PC card in 1991. The PC card specifications JEIDA 4.1 and PCMCIA 2.0 are the same.  4.1 and PCMICIA 2.1 requirements. Additionally, it provides exceptionally low power consumption by applying ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) A power management specification developed by Intel, Toshiba and Microsoft that makes hardware status information available to the operating system. , PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

All six key PC97 requirements are addressed. Trident's Omega82C196 provides five important differentiating features as follows:

-- Internal zoomed video buffers

-- Dual zoomed video socket support

-- On-board video source (non-ZV) support Card activity LED

-- Advanced power control register

"Trident is pushing notebook display technology further, by offering more new functions ahead of the competition," said Gerry Liu, Trident's Vice President Multimedia Marketing. "This new device enables our industry-leading OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  customers to provide far more elegant and higher performing notebook and desktop designs from."

The Omega82C196 controls two CardBus sockets with Zoomed Video support on both sockets. Each socket can be configured independently for either CardBus, Zoomed Video or 16-bit PC Card support. It allows the PCI Bus to expand electrical load limits while maintaining high performance, 32-bit bus mastering, for PC Cards. It allows other on-board sources, such as TV tuner or MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs).  video, to share the same video port as the LCD controller.

Additionally, Trident is offering the Omega82C194 device without the integrated zoomed-video buffers and advanced power management features of the Omega82C196 for OEMs with lower integration and little board space constraints. Price and availability samples of the Omega82C196 are available now, customer shipments will begin in Q2 1997. It is priced at $18.50 for 10,000 units. Product brief is available.
