Tributes to dead soldier.

LEADING politicians yesterday paid tribute to a soldier who killed himself in Iraq.

Lance Corporal David Wilson, 27, shot himself in the head last Thursday - just 11 weeks after becoming a father.

The Huddersfield-born soldier was serving in the 9 Regiment Army Corps in Basra when he died. He leaves behind his daughter Poppy, fiancee Michelle Curry, his parents Ian and Doreen Wilson and a brother.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown paid tribute to L/Cpl Wilson, who was brought up in Durham, in the House of Commons yesterday.

Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions, he said: "I'm sure the whole House will join me in sending our profound condolences to the family and friends of Lance Corporal Wilson. We owe him, and all those who have lost their lives serving their country, a deep debt of gratitude."

Conservative leader David Cameron and Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg also paid tribute to L/Cpl Wilson
