It's been said Cage's music was more interesting to think about than to hear. That's a call you've got to make on your own - about Cage, about the whole genre of "noise." And you'll get that chance Sunday during the John Cage Harsh Noise Tribute Night at Sam Bond's Garage.

Portland's Nkondi will go last in what Cryptic Weevil weevil, common name for certain beetles of the snout beetle family (Curculionidae), small, usually dull-colored, hard-bodied insects. The mouthparts of snout beetles are modified into down-curved snouts, or beaks, adapted for boring into plants; the jaws are at the , the event's organizer, says is the style least like Cage's of the four slated performances.

Noise musicians owe a debt - sometimes unrecognized debt - to Cage, which is why they wanted to have the event. Cage is most famous for his piece 4'33', a recording that sounds a lot like four minutes and 33 seconds of silence.

Nkondi will play an imaginary duet with Cage, using Cage music as sound sources to manipulate. Cryptic Weevil will join I Died, INRI INRI

"Imagine ambient music put through distortion and feedback; it's frenetic and crazy," Cryptic Weevil says in general of the noise genre. "Think of it as a Jackson Pollack painting. It's nonrepresentational non·rep·re·sen·ta·tion·al
