Triathletes' running cadence mirrors cycling cadence. (The Crosstraining Report).


A new study asked thirteen college triathletes to cycle at race pace using three different cadences: a baseline, and then both 20% faster and 20% slower. The athletes were found to be 7% faster at running 3,200m after 30 minutes of cycling with the fastest turnover than with the slowest one. This was due to their stride frequency increasing a remarkable 10%, shaving nearly a minute off their times.

Runners have been known to bicycle to local road races as a way of warming up.
