TriQuint Semiconductor CDMA / WCDMA PA-Duplexer Modules Appear in New Motorola(R) Wireless Phones.

New European / US / Asian Motorola([R]) Phones Carry TriQuint Modules: Save 50% PC Board Space, Speed Manufacturing, Extend Battery Life

BARCELONA, Spain & HILLSBORO, Ore. -- TriQuint Semiconductor (Nasdaq:TQNT), a leading supplier of RF front-end modules for wireless handsets and communications networks, announced today that it is shipping RF (radio frequency) PA-Duplexer modules to global handset manufacturer Motorola([R]) for a new generation of phones now reaching retail stores in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , Europe and Asia. New Motorola([R]) phones with TriQuint PA-Duplexer modules include the Motorola KRZR K1m, SLVR SLVR Silver

The new Motorola([R]) handsets with TriQuint products from its TRITIUM tritium (trĭt`ēəm), radioactive isotope of hydrogen with mass number 3. The tritium nucleus, called a triton, contains one proton and two neutrons. It has a half-life of 12.5 years and decays by beta-particle emission.  PA-Duplexer Module(TM) family will operate across multiple frequencies supporting CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band.  (code division multiple access), WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) A 3G high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that use the TDMA or GSM technology worldwide, including AT&T (formerly Cingular) and T-Mobile in the U.S.  (wideband code division multiple access) and HEDGE (HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) See HSPA.  + EDGE) designs. The modules offer Motorola([R])significant circuit board space savings, a reduced bill of materials The list of components that make up a system. For example, a bill of materials for a house would include the cement block, lumber, shingles, doors, windows, plumbing, electric, heating and so on.  and extended battery life - key advantages in next-generation handset designs. The new modules support TriQuint's continuing strategy to supply customers with high performance, space-saving products optimized to major transceiver reference designs.

"The success of these modules is a good example of how TriQuint is using its unique in-house process technologies, design skills and cooperative relationships to enable handset manufacturers to reduce circuit board area, while also reducing handset development time and increasing performance," said TriQuint Vice President for Handsets, Tim Dunn Tim Dunn is a former 2006 United States Congressional candidate for the 8th District of North Carolina. Dunn is a Democrat who ran against the current Republican incumbent, Robin Hayes. . "We believe robust sales, combined with the fact that we have new modules in many different phones, illustrates that our customers clearly see the benefits of our products."

TriQuint developed the modules working closely with Motorola's handset design group as a means to integrate key functions within a single packaged device. Shipment of the new modules extends the scope of the relationship the two companies have had for more than five years.

TriQuint's new modules occupy 50% less space than discrete components fulfilling the same transmit chain functions. The modules' high-level integration and efficiency can significantly increase performance, thereby extending talk-time while reducing the manufacturer's overall materials bill. Module content typically includes multiple die-level devices created using TriQuint's highly-regarded gallium arsenide (GaAs) processes for the power amplifier and matching circuitry, as well as surface acoustic wave A surface acoustic wave (SAW) is an acoustic wave traveling along the surface of a material having some elasticity, with an amplitude that typically decays exponentially with the depth of the substrate.  (SAW) technology for filtering and duplexing.

TriQuint products now shipping in production quantities to Motorola([R]) include the TQM (Total Quality Management) An organizational undertaking to improve the quality of manufacturing and service. It focuses on obtaining continuous feedback for making improvements and refining existing processes over the long term. See ISO 9000. 613017 and the TQM663017 for different frequency bands within CDMA handsets. TriQuint's TQM676001 and the TQM666017 are used for various frequencies within WCDMA and HEDGE handsets. CDMA technology sees application in the United States and Korea, while WCDMA and HEDGE products are used across the globe within those markets where high bandwidth networks are already supporting 3G services such as mobile video conferencing or video downloads.

"These modules are a key element of our 'Global Handset Strategy' to provide integrated solutions targeted to specific regional needs," remarked Dunn, "and we are excited that Motorola has selected our TRITIUM PA-Duplexer Module(TM)family for its new generation of innovative phone designs offered in diverse global markets."
