TriGem Computer Incorporates Agate Technologies' "Hot Swap" Function in New DreamSys61 ChangeUp Computers.


FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 1998--TriGem Computer Inc. has teamed up with U.S.-based Agate Technologies Inc. to enhance the quality, manageability and convenience of PC computing.

TriGem's new DreamSys61 ChangeUp Family of PC computers includes the Hot Swap To pull out a component from a system and plug in a new one while the main power is still on. Also called "hot plug" and "hot insertion," hot swap is a feature of USB devices, allowing an external drive, network adapter or other peripheral to be plugged in without having to power down the  Package, a docking module that includes Agate's "hot swap" hardware and software technology. Hot swapping (hardware) hot swapping - The connection and disconnection of peripherals or other components without interrupting system operation. This facility may have design implications for both hardware and software.  enables users to quickly and conveniently exchange multiple devices without having to shut the system down.

The DreamSys61 ChangeUp 4180 and 4190 PC computers feature the Front Loading Front loading is USA's Defense Department jargon for a method used by the Military-industrial complex to increase defense funding. The phrase is commonly used together with "political engineering"

The customized version of the Tioman software automatically detects, configures and identifies the device, and creates an icon in the user's Windows "My Computer" folder. Before the user removes the docking module from the DreamSys61 ChangeUp's bay, the software verifies that files are closed and automatically prepares the device for removal.
