Tri-Origin sampling for diamonds.

Toronto-based Tri Origin Exploration Ltd. has completed its initial phase of diamond exploration at its optioned Wawa project and is now focusing on identifying, locating and sampling kimberlites found on the property.

The 24-square-kilometre project area lies two kilometres east of Wawa within the western extension of the Abitibi Greenstone Belt The Abitibi greenstone belt is a 2,800-2,600 million year old greenstone belt that spans across the Ontario-Quebec border in Canada. It is mostly made of volcanic rocks, but also includes ultramafic rocks, mafic intrusions, granitoid rocks, and early and middle Precambrian  where numerous diamond occurrences have recently been reported.

, a rock type that has the potential to host diamonds, has been identified. And more importantly, Type II kimberlites have been identified also. A number of the major diamond mines located around the world are hosted by Type II kimberlite.

, Tri Origin's exploration project manager, says it is still too early to speculate whether there could be a substantial amount of diamonds on the property.

He says the company is awaiting analysis on the kimberlite. No analysis has been done yet to determine if there are actually diamonds on the property.

"We're just trying to get a better handle on the orientation of some of these kimberlite dikes to see which direction they're they're

The Wawa area has a history of gold and iron deposits, with current and past producers of gold including Renabi Mine, Eagle River Mine, Edwards Mine and Mishi Deposit.

The property includes the Jubilee jubilee (j`bĭlē), in the Bible, a year when alienated property and land were restored, slaves were manumitted, debts were forgiven, and a general sabbatical year was observed in , Minto, Cooper, Parkhill, Surlaga, Grace-Darwin and Van Sickle sick·le

mines and six other gold prospects with underground development. The majority of gold production occurred during the early 1900s.

"There's a series of old mines on the property that were mined for gold, and they did a pretty good job of noting the orientations of various dikes," Chubb says.

Tri Origin's exploration marks the first modern exploration of the property. Previous work concentrated on areas close to old mine workings. Tri Origin has an option from Citadel Gold Mines Inc. and Citabar Ltd. Partnership to earn 51 per cent interest in the Wawa property by spending $1.5 million on exploration over five years, beginning in May 2000.

Upon completion of the expenditure, Citadel will have an option to enter into a joint venture with Tri Origin to further develop the property.
