Tri-C to Host Free Event Honoring Veterans.PARMA, Ohio -- Cuyahoga Community College will host "An Evening with Veterans, Families & Friends" on Friday, September 21 at 7 p.m. in the Western Campus Theatre. The event is part of the celebration for National Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Recognition Day, which is September 21. The free event will feature an intergenerational in·ter·gen·er·a·tion·al adj. Being or occurring between generations: "These social-insurance programs are intergenerational and all appreciation of service men and women, honoring U.S. veterans of yesterday and today. The evening will feature the documentary, "Barbed Wire barbed wire, wire composed of two zinc-coated steel strands twisted together and having barbs spaced regularly along them. P.O.W.'s featured in the documentary include Maynard "Doc" Unger of Lakewood, State of Ohio Commander, American ex-Prisoner of War; Richard Francies of Shaker Heights, survivor of the Bataan Death March Bataan Death March (April 1942) Forced march of 70,000 U.S. and Filipino prisoners of war (World War II) captured by the Japanese in the Philippines. From the southern end of the Bataan Peninsula, the starving and ill-treated prisoners were force-marched 63 mi (101 km) to a in April 1942; and Alexander Jefferson of Detroit, Tuskegee Airman and P-51 fighter pilot. In addition, Lieutenant Colonel Bryan Blue, Battalion Commander, U.S. Army Recruiting Station, will introduce returned veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan during the evening. A reception will follow in the Theatre lobby at the conclusion of the program, and visitors can browse through several artifacts artifacts see specimen artifacts. from the Crile Archives Center for History Education that will be on display.
