Tri-C Recording Arts Program Releases First CD on Student Run Label; CD features 25 Cleveland artists.

CLEVELAND -- CLEVELAND, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Cuyahoga Community College's innovative new Recording Arts and Technology (RAT) program, is releasing its first CD featuring some of Cleveland's best performers. The double CD set entitled "Crooked River Groove 1 & 2," will be available in area record stores on March 25. The CD contains "The Rockin' Side" and "The Unplugged Side" which features performers who have appeared in the first 25 episodes of "Crooked River Groove," Tri-C's cable television program. Crooked River Groove is a regional television series produced and broadcast by Tri-C's Smart TV cable channel that celebrates the rich diversity of original music in Northeast Ohio. Smart TV has produced more than 32 Crooked River Groove programs with the help of students.

The RAT program, started in the fall of 2001, provides students with a two-year associate degree by training students for real work in the audio recording industry. Designed and directed by music producer, composer and program manager Tommy Wiggins, this is the only recording arts associate degree program in Ohio. Under the guidance of Wiggins and Bob Freese, a former SONY/New York marketing executive, students are learning skills that will prepare them well for the highly competitive music industry. RAT Records is a student-run record label that is a major component of the educational program.

Freese says, "There's no better way to learn the record business than to be in the record business. RAT Records provides students with hands-on practical experience that reinforces all the theories that they learn in the classroom."

Cleveland has always been a music town and this program provides the educational environment that prepares students for the highly competitive audio recording and music business. Professional producers, engineers, musicians and music executives teach students at the Metropolitan Campus. To learn more about the Recording Arts Technology Program, call program manager Tommy Wiggins at 216-987-4252.

The profits and proceeds from sales of "Crooked River Groove 1 & 2" CD will provide support for this college program.
