TresCom International deploys Tekelec EAGLE STP; first U.S.-based international long distance carrier to utilize STP's ANSI-ITU gateway capabilities.


MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 1996--Tekelec's Network Switching Division (Nasdaq/NM:TKLC) announced today that TresCom International, a Florida-based international long distance carrier, selected Tekelec's EAGLE Signal Transfer Point (STP STP or standard temperature and pressure, standard conditions for measurement of the properties of matter. The standard temperature is the freezing point of pure water, 0°C; or 273.15°K;. ), in December 1995, to host its international and domestic network. TresCom International is the first international exchange carrier in the U.S. to purchase an EAGLE STP. The order, which was shipped in December, resulted from an evaluation and selection process concluded in that same month.

Among other features, Tekelec's EAGLE STP was chosen by TresCom for its unique ANSI-ITU gateway conversion function. The gateway feature enables the EAGLE to interconnect networks that use ITU (International Telecommunication Union, Geneva, Switzerland, www.itu.ch) A telecommunications standards body that is under the auspices of the United Nations. Comprising more than 185 member countries, the ITU sets standards for global telecom networks.  International, ITU National or ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.  signalling standards. International communications become more efficient and cost effective through the deployment of the gateway.
