The technology partnership will allow Trend Micro's ScanMail(R) for Exchange antivirus software See antivirus program.

Designed from the ground up using Microsoft technologies, the NetIQ AppManager Suite proactively monitors Windows components, from the operating system operating system (OS)

By allowing administrators a consolidated view of the entire Windows deployment, system performance is enhanced, uptime is increased, and support costs are reduced.

With the addition of the AppManager for Trend Micro ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Messaging and groupware software for Windows from Microsoft. The partnership will provide the first antivirus scanning application that can be monitored from within the AppManager management console A terminal or workstation used to monitor and control a network. Using AppManager, the administrator can monitor all ScanMail for Exchange services and processes, including real-time scanning real-time scanning

of inbound and outbound mail, virus detection and cleaning activity, number of emails scanned, the number of infected emails detected, and activity logs in NT Eventlog. AppManager will also be able to monitor and report a failure in the scanning processes or scheduled scans, and errors in updates to pattern files and scan engines. Trend Micro's optional ScanMail eManager (tm) content filtering plug-in can also be monitored through AppManager to ensure it is blocking spam and keeping inappropriate emails outside of Exchange servers.

"Every application we've integrated into our AppManager Suite has been added through the mutual sharing of technologies. Nothing is ever 'tacked on'," said Tom Kemp, vice president of marketing at NetIQ. "By investing the effort to work closely with trusted software vendors, like Trend Micro, we can ensure a seamless integration An addition of a new application, routine or device that works smoothly with the existing system. It implies that the new feature or program can be installed and used without problems. Contrast with "transparent," which implies that there is no discernible change after installation.  of a quality product and provide a consistent experience for our customers."

The integration of ScanMail for Exchange with the AppManager Suite addresses two important requirements for today's networked computing environments: the ease of consolidated management with the security of thorough virus detection and cleaning. AppManager users now have the option of an integrated tool to combat email based viruses before they can enter the network and spread to desktops, while retaining the flexibility of a single control console for centralized and remote management. Likewise, current ScanMail for Exchange customers can expand the scope of their centralized management capabilities and know that their antivirus solution will be seamlessly integrated into a broader control console.

"We were very pleased to have this opportunity to create an innovative product with NetIQ," said David Lu, vice president of product management of Trend Micro. "Trend Micro has always focused on centralized management as part of an enterprise-level solution to stopping viruses, so the integration of ScanMail for Exchange as the antivirus product of choice for NetIQ's Windows management tool is no accident."

In addition to viruses, Internet content security incorporates both active content such as trojans, worms, and malicious ActiveX and Java applets, and passive content consisting of offensive or inappropriate emails, spam and excessive use of network bandwidth. In today's networked world where Internet communication is a mission critical function, sending 100,000 unsolicited junk emails or a 10MB file can cause as much havoc as a virus - perhaps more. Trend Micro develops products designed to fight both active and passive content threats.
