Trend Micro Ships First Integrated Antivirus and Content Security Solution For Lucent Managed Firewall.

Trend Micro, Inc., the leading provider of centrally managed virus protection (Nasdaq:TMIC), today announced shipment of its InterScan(R) VirusWall(R) and eManager(TM) Internet gateway virus scanning and e-mail content-filtering software solution for Lucent Technologies' (NYSE:LU) Lucent Managed Firewall.

InterScan VirusWall 3.2 for the Lucent Managed Firewall is specifically designed to meet the needs of networked enterprise and Internet Service Provider (ISP) environments. With this announcement, Trend Micro provides the only virus protection to easily integrate with the Lucent Managed Firewall.

With InterScan VirusWall and eManager, organizations can avoid shutting down their email servers during emergency virus events, minimizing downtime of mission critical communications. With eManager content filtering, administrators can create rules to block messages containing words or phrases associated with email carrying virus-infected attachments.

In addition, administrators can also choose to block file attachments containing Microsoft Office macros as a preventative measure while waiting for an updated virus pattern file. With these features, administrators can block potentially dangerous emails while allowing other email safe passage through the Internet SMTP gateway.

Lucent Firewall Integration

Trend Micro and Lucent jointly developed a content scanning protocol Application Program Interface (API) to deliver seamless integration between InterScan VirusWall 3.2 and the Lucent Managed Firewall. InterScan's flexible setup supports any network topology, including installation on the Lucent Managed Firewall machine or another content security server.

Using InterScan VirusWall 3.2 with eManager, ISPs and networked enterprises can centrally monitor, detect, and respond to security issues in real-time across a distributed Microsoft NT network. The Solaris version of InterScan VirusWall 3.2 with Lucent Managed Firewall support is expected to be available in Q4, 1999.

About InterScan VirusWall and eManager

Trend InterScan VirusWall provides high-performance three-in-one Internet gateway protection for the enterprise against viruses in SMTP, HTTP and FTP traffic. Virus scanning occurs at the server, so it is transparent to end users. InterScan also detects and blocks potentially harmful ActiveX and Java code.

Flexible configuration allows administrators to select real-time, pre-scheduled or manual scanning. All routine tasks - such as web-based updates, reporting and alerting may also be automatically scheduled at the administrator's convenience. Customizable virus warning messages may be sent automatically to file recipients, senders and/or the administrator.

A comprehensive activity log maintains the details of each infected file or attempted security violation. Central management is handled through a web-based console, enabling administrators to enforce Internet security policy enterprise-wide from a local or remote system.

InterScan's architecture is scaleable for large to small networks. Its real-time, rule-based and pattern-recognition scanning engine technology detects and removes known viruses in files compressed up to 20 layers deep using any of 16 compression types. InterScan's MacroTrap(TM) technology detects known and unknown macro viruses - today's most prevalent virus type.

The optional eManager adds customizable spam blocking and message content filtering based on user profiles. E-mail traffic is monitored and charted so administrators can set eManager to postpone delivery of over-sized or other "non-standard" e-mail traffic to off-peak hours in order to optimize bandwidth usage.

Spam source lists can be automatically updated. Content filtering criteria is fully customizable to prevent confidential or inappropriate e-mail dissemination.

InterScan VirusWall 3.2 starts at SRP $725.00 for a 25-seat user license. eManager, used in conjunction with InterScan VirusWall 3.2 for NT starts at SRP $181.25 for a 25-seat user license. Purchased together as a suite, the price is SRP $816.25 for a 25-seat user license.
