Trend Micro Announces eDoctor Global Network.

Trend's Global Network Combines the Strength of Antivirus Expertise

with the Network Expertise of Internet Providers and Others to

Provide Faster Response to Virus Events

Customers Can Now Obtain Virus Protection as a Value Added Service

from Providers Including Breakwater, Sprint, and US WEST.net

Trend Micro Inc., (Nasdaq:TMIC) a leading provider of Internet virus protection, today announced the eDoctor(TM) Global Network, a worldwide Internet antivirus service initiative designed to provide a better defense against Internet viruses.

The eDoctor Global Network builds malicious code protection right into the Internet infrastructure, enabling customers to obtain virus protection as a value-added service from Internet service providers and managed service providers. By utilizing Internet technology and working with Internet infrastructure providers and security maintenance experts, the Trend eDoctor Global Network provides both home and corporate customers with the highest level of virus protection, 24x7 support and information, and faster response to virus events.

Computer virus and "worm" attacks have caused businesses to lose an estimated $7.6 billion so far this year as a result of disabled computers according to the research firm Computer Economics in Carlsbad, Calif. Service providers participating in Trend's eDoctor Global Network can operate as a customer's "virtual IT department" dedicated to comprehensively helping business and individual users manage the threat of computer virus infection.

Internet Service Providers will build Trend antivirus protection into their networks and other conduits of information and email as a value-added service for their customers. An exclusive set of network security professionals will provide complete network antivirus service and support. This provision of value-added services creates a new business-model for providing Internet antivirus security and gives service providers the ability to ensure their customers a safer, more secure Internet experience.

Sprint (NYSE:PCS) (NYSE:FON) is licensing Trend technology to provide value-added services to its corporate customers, namely, corporate Internet gateway virus scanning as part of a suite of managed security solutions (see release dated 8-17-99).

US WEST.net (NYSE:USW) is providing its home and small business Internet access subscribers with email virus protection which prevents viruses from getting to customers' computers (see release dated 9-14-99).

Breakwater Security Associates, a managed information security services provider, will use Trend eDoctor technology and receive specialized training, enabling them to remotely manage network antivirus solutions for their customers (see release dated 9-14-99).

Others licensing Trend technology who are included in the eDoctor Global Network are Infonet Services Corporation, a leading provider of global communications services and messaging and collaborative products, Electric Mail (VSE:ELE), a provider of email outsourcing in North America, and Pilot Network Services, Inc. (Nasdaq:PILT), a provider of secure Internet services that dynamically protect corporate networks and Web sites against intruders.

Partners in Asia include Fujitsu Business Systems, Ltd, Linkage (a subsidiary of PSINet), and Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd.

Computer viruses are the single biggest computer and network security concern according to InformationWeek's Global Information Security Survey of 2,700 executives, security professionals, and technology managers from 49 countries, conducted with Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP. 64% of companies worldwide were hit by at least one virus in the past 12 months, up from 53% the year before. In the United States, viruses affected 69% of companies.
