ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 V5.1 takes full advantage of the Exchange 2000 enhancements included in service pack 1 (SP1), such as the new Microsoft virus-scanning Application Programming Interface (VS API) 2.0.

What's New in ScanMail for Exchange 2000 Version 5.1

ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 V5.1 provides complete content security protection for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server environments, regardless of what type of traffic enters the mail server. ScanMail performs complete inbound and outbound scanning of attachments and message body through SMTP, HTTP, MAPI, POP3 and IMAP4 protocols including Installable File System (IFS) and NTTP. This feature ensures that corporations using Exchange 2000 as the messaging platform are protected and virus free, regardless of the protocols used by the end user.

With full support of the new Microsoft VS API 2.0 and Windows 2000 Advanced Server, ScanMail for Exchange 2000 V5.1 now has access to all email properties, such as the sender, recipient, administrator, and subject, for enhanced notification and reporting capabilities. This advanced feature helps administrators quickly put a stop to new virus threats by enabling them to compile consolidated reporting and logging files detailing the virus incidents across their Exchange 2000 environment.

Following the lead of Trend Micro's MacroTrap(R) technology, ScriptTrap is a module within the standard scan engine that identifies harmful scripts based on what they do, rather than how they are written. This virus scanning technique is known as heuristic scanning and has become an increasingly necessary component of effective virus detection and elimination because viruses themselves have become more sophisticated.

The functionality enables Trend Micro's antivirus products to detect unknown script viruses generically and enhances the company's existing ability to manage polymorphic script viruses.
