Trees planted in memory of Linda; CEREMONY: Students' poignant tribute to lecturer who helped change so many lives.Byline: By Michael Corley A LECTURER who pioneered courses in Warwickshire for car crash and stroke victims has been commemorated by the people she helped. Since Linda Napoleoni died of cancer in January, students of the Acquired Brain Injury A neurological condition, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) is damage to the brain acquired after birth. A former mining community, it depended upon the great coal mines nearby, which were developed in the 19th cent. trees were planted and a bench installed. The unveiling took place at the Warwick New Road campus and was attended by students past and present, some of whom paid their own moving tributes. When Linda, who lived in Whitnash, founded the college's highly successful ABI programme in 2000, it was as a pilot scheme and had only 19 students on the books. Many of those to benefit had sustained injuries through car crashes, strokes, brain tumours, haemorrhages and assaults. At the time there was a limit to what could be studied as communications, ceramics, woodworking and art and craft were the only subjects on the curriculum. Today there are about 60 students signed up who are given the opportunity to undertake a much broader range of courses. The courses were introduced to help rebuild students' lives by giving them the skills and confidence needed to adapt to life with their injuries. Course tutor Chris McGovern said: "The students had a lot of affection for Linda, and wanted to do something to remember her. "They did a lot of fundraising, including a showtime show·time or show time n. 1. The time at which an entertainment, such as the showing of a movie, is scheduled to start. 2. "I felt so proud of the students at the unveiling - they are very special people who did Linda proud." CAPTION(S): MR051207TREE1 MOVING...
