Treated nano-silica nucleates PP.

Two new additives based on surface-modified, 50-nm silica particles are said to provide controlled nucleation nu·cle·a·tion

1000 and 2000 from Nyacol Nano Technologies, Ashland, Mass., raise PP's crystallization Crystallization

The formation of a solid from a solution, melt, vapor, or a different solid phase. Crystallization from solution is an important industrial operation because of the large number of materials marketed as crystalline particles.
temperature (Tc), allowing for faster processing, increased toughness and stiffness, and reduced haze. In films, they also function as high-performance antiblocks. The accompanying electron micrograph shows good distribution of the silica particles.

These non-blooming additives are available as silica powders or concentrates in PP. NGS 1000 is FDA-compliant and is recommended primarily for injection molding. NGS 2000 offers slightly less Tc enhancement but still improves stiffness and clarity. It is said to provide better nucleation than sodium benzoate sodium benzoate or benzoate of soda, chemical compound, C6H5CO2Na, colorless or white crystalline, aromatic compound; the sodium salt of benzoic acid.  and is expected to be approved by FDA FDA
