Treasured photograph stolen by women.

THIEVES tricked their way into an elderly widow's home and stole a picture of her husband.

The 87-year-old woman was heartbroken to discover the theft after three women entered her home after asking for a glass of water.

They also stole her purse from the house in Beechwood Grove, Prescot on Tuesday at 4.15pm.

Police were today hunting for the three women.

A spokeswoman said that the pensioner had just returned from a shopping trip when the women, who were in their 30s or 40s, asked if they could come in for a drink of water.

She said the woman had been upset since the theft and appealed for help in trapping the thieves, who are believed to have driven away in a car which had been parked nearby.

Anyone with information should phone police on 0151-777 6516.
