Cheapflights.com had 1.2 million visitors in January, a record for one month. It also had a 300 percent increase in revenue in the past 12 months and says unique visitors A count of how many different people access a Web site. Space tourism enthusiasts acknowledge risks of new industry. The pioneers of space tourism expect fatalities as the industry gets off the ground, Florida Today reports. Michael Kelly, who is helping to create safety standards for space tourism, compared the industry to the early days of aviation. Proposed airline ticket tax increase comes at a bad time, analysts say. The president's proposal to boost airline ticket taxes "could be the breaking point" for the nation's carriers if it goes through, an industry analyst said. An Air Transport Association spokesman said the tax comes at bad time for the industry, which has reported large losses this year.

Some airline employees who decided to steal a life raft from a one of the 747s got into serious trouble. They were successful in getting it out of the aircraft and home. Shortly after they decided to take a ride on their newly won prize on the local beach. Much to their surprise they noticed a Coast Guard helicopter coming towards them. It turned out that the chopper was homing in on the emergency locator beacon A generic term for all radio beacons used for emergency locating purposes. Delta Air Lines

Delta says schedule changes have already improved performance. Delta Air Lines said massive schedule changes, dubbed "Operation Clockwork," have improved its on-time performance, Aviation Daily reports. Last week, Delta launched a large schedule redesign with the goal of increasing its on-time percentage by 7% in 2005. Delta said it now thinks it may surpass its goal.

Smaller airports start offering free wireless Internet access. The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will start promoting its free wireless Internet access, the Miami Herald reports. Large airports have been slow to establish wireless networks because of their size, but smaller airports have used the technology to attract business travelers. Fort Lauderdale airport officials say they will consider charging for the service after they monitor usage.

The "Big Apple" nickname was officially licensed in the 1970s, the report said.

An in-flight entertainment system developed by engine maker Pratt & Whitney will offer video-on-demand, live television and Internet access, Air Transport World reports. The system, which will also monitor and troubleshoot aircraft systems, will be available in 18 months.
