Some airlines and phone companies hope regulators will eventually permit in-flight cell phone calls. The Federal Aviation Administration Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), component of the U.S. Department of Transportation that sets standards for the air-worthiness of all civilian aircraft, inspects and licenses them, and regulates civilian and military air traffic through its air traffic control now bans the use of mobile phones in flight. Critics of lifting the ban say using phones in-flight would diminish the comfort of other travelers. As part of the agreement, American also will be implementing the Farelogix Distribution Manager. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
