Florida loses top spot in U.S. destination survey. Americans picked California over Florida as their top travel destination for the first time in at least eight years, according to the National Leisure Travel Monitor survey. The firm that conducted the annual survey said travelers' worries about hurricanes affected the state's overall ranking, though specific destinations within Florida, such as Miami, actually saw their popularity grow. Amadeus

Amadeus announced the availability of FareAnalyzer, an "airfare display innovation in the Amadeus e-Travel Management online booking solution that lets travelers evaluate a large number of air itinerary options based on multiple criteria such as price, trip duration, departure time, connections, etc." May 1, 2006

Star Alliance joined American Airlines in questioning the recent content-sharing deal between Amadeus and Sabre. The two GDSs announced in early March that they had entered into an agreement that enables "Amadeus customers to complete bookings on an airline [through Sabre] in the unlikely event of that airline withdrawing from participation in Amadeus" and vice versa. In a statement, Star CEO Jaan Albrecht, said: "We are surprised that two GDSs are allowed to cooperate in such a manner in a market which already lacks any real competition. We fully support our members in seeking legal and regulatory advice as well as clarification of the practical implications of this announcement." Star continues to press forward with its Alternative Content Access Platform project aimed at reducing "the more than $2 billion which the 18 member carriers spend annually on GDS fees." The alliance has signed up three vendors--G2 Switchworks, ITA Software and Lufthansa Systems--as participants. May 5, 2006

American Airlines

American Airlines chose ARINC's Web-based OpCenter to serve as a backup to its flight operations host computer, a move the carrier said will allow it to maintain its full flight schedule without interruption if its host system shuts down. May 4, 2006
