HOUSE ARREST

IN A MOVE CALLED DESTINY BY FRIENDS AND FOES ALIKE, flawless Paul Rodriguez is pro for Girl skateboards with boards to arrive in stores posthaste post·haste
adv.
With great speed; rapidly.

n. Archaic
Great speed; rapidity.

[From the phrase haste, post, haste, a direction on letters.
. Fear not Kareem disciples, as the City Stars are holding strong, with rumors of a new Mike Taylor-led company out of the Mastermind camp and some exciting new acquisitions. The F-Troop added desert hot shoe Leo Romero to the squad after seeing his top-shelf rail moves and willingness to take a pounding. Speaking of abuse magnets, Corey Duffel may have turned pro after being interviewed in every mag short of Cat Fancy.

On the cusp of the next big trend, 88 footwear has recruited '80s legend Neil Blender to the team. The notorious recluse (who has spun a 180 recently, making appearances at backyard pool sessions, skateparks and keggers), will be designing a signature shoe--rumored to be a mid-top a la his beloved Air Jordans of yore. Other companies looking for their own '80s legend need only be reminded--Hosoi's getting out in 14 months!

Out of LA comes the Memphis Shoe Collection. Their first team pro is the East Coast Ambassador himself, Ricky Oyola. The am slot goes to real-life Memphis transplant and "Playing in Traffic" darling, Phil Kent.

The Midwest's reigning underground tech titan, Chad Benson, went pro for Iota (language, specification) Iota - A specification language.

STONE ZONE

Stoners rejoice! High Times, that canon of squinty eyes and uncontrollable giggling, has finally recognized our sports' finest among its ranks with a story on "Extreme Stoners" and a Stacy Peralta/Tony Alva interview in its latest issue. Jen O'Brien graces the cover (holding a killer bud!! OWW-OWW!) and sporting a tank top that says, get this, no wait! Dude! It's got the military lettering like that show M*A*S*H, but instead, oh dude, you're gonna trip on this! Instead of M*A*S*H it says H*A*S*H! Like you think it's some lame M*A*S*H shirt but then it's like, "Whoah! I get it!" Pretty sweet! You know, like H*A*S*H! Ha-harr! Are any of you guys hungry? Dude! What? The photo of Stacy Peralta awkwardly hugging his board is also a gem.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983. For most of its career, the group has consisted of vocalist Anthony Kiedis, guitarist John Frusciante, bassist Michael "Flea" Balzary, and drummer Chad Smith.  have released their most recent example of their recorded infatuation with things DT. The album By the Way features more Dogtown talk and even includes the abstract treatise track "Zephyr Zephyr or Zephyrus: see Eos. ." Between the skate-oriented Anthony Keidis, Mark Ryder and Warner Brothers, act real surprised when the documentary style video directed by some incredibly obvious DT personages is unveiled.

LID SERIOUS

Ca. Governor Gray Davis recently signed bill SB 994 into effect. As of January 1, 2003 skateparks in the state will have a life-span of five more years. It is expected that nationally the bill's passage will have a pro-park effect as other states follow Cali's lead.

Another alarmingly growing trend is the governmental mandate of compulsory safety helmet use. The question here is not whether you think helmets work, or choose to wear or not wear one. The problem is all about politicians who have never skated in their lives legislating viewpoints of how skaters should behave. Are not these crusty legislators the same fools who routinely outlaw skating? Now out in California, the enactment of a mandatory under-18 helmet law looms on the horizon. Such prime time media as LA's Channel 9 are even going out and questioning the veracity of this development. Reporter 9 Angela Hunter has been out interviewing senators, citizens, and skaters alike, When even the mainstream sees a civil liberties violation being perpetrated by "our elected officials," things really stink.

PAGES TURNED

James O'Mahoney and Scott Starr appear to be fouling the nest of high society yet again. Seems the pair's next rumored exploit involves their highjacking of the oft-celebrated Santa Barbara Film Festival. The Action Sports Retailer trade show fumbled its way into San Diego, where it encountered a violent opposition amongst skate and surf companies. In general the show was populated by scared corporate clowns who appeared desperate over their immediate employment prospects. BONE OUT

In the realm of revisionistic historical spectacle, anything goes. So when Sports Illustrated for kids staged a Bones Brigade reunion recently, all appeared normal. Guys you would expect to see like Lance Mountain, Tony Hawk, Mike McGill, Ray Underhill, Adrian Demain, and Tommy Guerrero were in the general vicinity. Alan Gelfand arrived fresh from the exile of his 45' wide ramplex and automotive garage. Obvious individuals inexplicably not present included Stacy Peralta, Ray "Bones" Rodriguez, Steve Saiz, Steve Rocco, and Scott Foss. (Hosoi was detained elsewhere). The evilest thing of all was the up front and central inclusion of one-time Boner Brigadeer, happy Daniel Gesmer, founder of the "skate ballet" dancemovement.
