TAMPA BLAM!

The 13th annual Tampa Am saw unknown Texas upstart Cody McEntire best a healthy field with McCrank-ish consistency and a dozen or so nollie maneuvers. Also engaged in some healthy stuff strutting, Keegan Sauder (now on Zero) ATV'd the shit out of the course, mixing handrail tricks with quarterpipe moves straight from the Book of Drehobl and Willy Akers (third) who's elastic, high-kicking style delighted the judges and capacity crowd. Other standouts included Dylan Reider, Tommy Sandoval, Robert Lopez Mont, the Pudster, Sheldon Meleshinski, and also the Oakley team. Complete coverage next issue.

It looks like those weekday blues are over in North County San Diego, at least for those lucky enough to have a friend in the business. An unnamed major manufacturer recently added a massive private skatepark to their new facilities. Who did? Where? Wish we could tell you, dudes, but we want to skate, too.

After a shaky time at Alien Workshop, Canada's tech-gnar Ted DeGros has signed on for a slot on the increasingly international Santa Cruz team.

Newly-born Empire Skateboard Distribution has just announced their line-up. Here is the official hierarchy: Greg Carroll will be the business specialist, Bryan Coons will be the general manager, and Joey Suriel and Justin Williams will be in charge of marketing and teams management.

SHAVE HEADS

Lizard King was beaten and robbed and left in the dirt in the Bay Area. Not only did he rebound, but courtesy of Mr J, he made it to the ASR Trade Suck in San Diego sans any money or ID. Once there he teamed with Dyet and they repeated the cycle, appearing at Vans' yachted 40th anniversary joint just long enough to get tossed. Steve Van Doren and his fur-hatted daughter Christy stood with the commodore on the docks and took it all in. Somebody definitely rocked that boat. Then the pair penetrated the Gestapo-efficient perimeter surrounding the Convention Center and made it to the Street Corner presentation of Scarface, featuring some SFX art-graft by Kevin Ancell, Mic-E Reyes, and Kevin Convertito. Somebody might have soiled Camp Transworld next door, but maybe it always just smelled like that. Bystanders like Paul Rodriguez, Bill Walton, Thiebaud, Guerrero, TV, and Sidney Wicks were blameless in the matter.

Worse yet was the lad's next visit to the King of the Road 2005 Video Premiere. While TSOL, Manic Hispanic with Ray "Bones" Rodriguez, and the Adolescents looked on, King Fausto V called out the Butcher. Only a hefty battalion of swinging security guards and the uncannily-timed intervention of the Lizard King saved this thing from melting down Three-Mile style into a full riot. It was a very successful social event and a torrid gig as well.

FOAM SURF

The unexpected closure of Clark Foam threatens to destabilize the surf industry. Clark is estimated to have provided at least 80 percent of all the US board cores. The odd effect is the possible emergence of several skate notables into the post-modern reorientation of all things brah. Eastern skate czar Reggie Barnes is now a distributor for Harold Walker's Foam. Chris Senn, who is now synced with Element, has been seen recently shaping surfboards out of insulation foam. NHS founder Rich Novak was reportedly asked by the leading surfing trade organization if he could render some assistance to "less fortunate surfing industry members."

Jay Adams' new Krooked tribute deck dropped just as Jay was reportedly moved to the mainland on the federal program. There is a large Adams support fundraiser being planned at Skate Lab that promises to team everyone imaginable. Said to be possible are auctioned evidence and art reduxes by Wes Humpston, James Muir, Chad White, Skipperboy Engblom, Jeff Ho, Nathan Pratt, Stecyk, Dawson, Alva, Jesse Martinez, and so forth.

His recent conviction for involuntary manslaughter was enough to get Nell Heddings sentenced for six years. Neil has already served four, so there was some hope that he might be released straight away. But a previous 1997 assault conviction where Nell made head contact with a man by using his skate may have resulted in the aforementioned more severe sentence. As it is, Heddings could be back in circulation in approximately 18 months, so at least all of this may soon be behind him.

RIP IN PEACE

Trevor Prescott 1977-2006

TREVOR AND I became really good friends after first meeting while skating 3rd and Army, where he was filming everybody doing tricks over the black hydrant. We continued to skate and film for the next five or so years. For all of us skaters who hung out with Trevor, he kept the dream alive. He would motivate all of us to go out and ride pretty much daily. He would push all of us to skate harder and get better by trying harder shit. For the San Francisco skate scene, he kept it going in a positive direction with his influence. Not only did Trevor film some of the most amazing skating, he did some of the most amazing skating himself. People like Trev don't come around very often. We'd go skating from time to time and I'd film him and he'd do the most amazing shit. He didn't care about what was really going on in skating's corporate world. He had a creative and innovative approach to skateboarding. If you watch his videos and films, you'll see the abstract styles he filmed. He put together the Seasons video magazine that had just been starting. He also filmed the FTC videos. Trevor was an amazing skater, filmer, producer, and video editor. For all those that knew him, he continually pushed us in a positive direction and always will be a driving force in our minds. The SF skate scene depended on people like Trevor to keep it going. He always gave people who felt they had no place in the skate industry a feeling that they belonged, whatever level they were on. Trevor will be missed by all of his homies and everyone who was fortunate enough to meet him.--Doug Bullene.
