Trash program, and its fees, expanding after July 1.

Byline: Lynne Klaft

LUNENBURG - Residents can look forward to an enhanced pay-as-you-throw trash and recycling recycling, the process of recovering and reusing waste products—from household use, manufacturing, agriculture, and business—and thereby reducing their burden on the environment.  program, with increases in bag prices starting July 1.

Town Manager Kerry A. Speidel told selectmen SELECTMEN. "The good news is that the tipping fee (the amount paid for disposal of waste) of $86 a ton has gone down to $78," said Ms. Speidel, who worked with Tessa Davis of the North Central Regional Solid Waste Cooperative on the requests for proposals from vendors.

The town generates 1,400 tons of solid waste annually and would see a savings of about $10,000 with the lower tipping fee.

Annual town meeting voters approved a warrant article that would allow the board to increase bag prices. Selectmen will vote on a contract award and decide on the price increases for the bags in the coming weeks.

The town has two sizes of bags, 15-gallon and 30-gallon, priced at $1 and $2 each, respectively.

The price increase proposed by the town manager is 25 cents for the small bags and 50 cents for the large bags.

The town would also realize a minimum of $5 a ton on paper recycling Paper recycling is the process of recovering waste paper and remaking it into new paper products. Recycling is open and free to all residents who wish to participate.

Town officials are investigating getting larger, wheeled trash containers that would hold trash as well as materials to be recycled. The containers would be sold at cost to residents.

"Of course, residents can still use the yellow recycle bins Starting with Windows 95, a simulated garbage can used for deleting files and folders. The recycle bin keeps the files intact in case the user wants to restore them, but can be "emptied" from time to time to save disk space.  if they wish, and Waste Management has said that they will provide stickers for residents to affix affix v. 1) to attach something to real estate in a permanent way, including planting trees and shrubs, constructing a building, or adding to existing improvements.  to their own larger containers if they choose that option," Ms. Speidel said in an interview yesterday.

Another change in the program includes collecting all items for recycling - paper, plastic, glass and metal - every week.

"No, you wouldn't have to separate the items; they can all be put in the same container. The town I live in has this system, but I usually separate my recycling," said Ms. Speidel.

The town manager will have a financial analysis for the selectmen to consider in the next few weeks. Waste Management's contract expires June 30.

The contract caps the fuel adjustment cost at $5 for the first three years.

Increased bag prices and the new program of putting out all recycled materials every week would begin July 1.
