Trapeze Networks Provides Wireless Access for France Televisions Publicite.

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Trapeze Networks(TM), the award winning provider of the wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  (WLAN See wireless LAN.

) Mobility System(TM), today announced that France Televisions Publicite, a subsidiary of the France Televisions Group, has installed a secure Trapeze WLAN throughout its main offices for use by its sales staff and the general public.

France Televisions Publicite, a company on the forefront of technological innovation, began testing various WLAN technologies at the end of 2003 with the aim of initially implementing it internally. The transmission of bandwidth-hungry advertising content by sales staff highlighted the importance of deploying the WLAN incrementally.

"The idea was not to deploy wireless comprehensively across the internal LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. , but to offer wireless access in the main meeting rooms and to select a network that would scale to meet the needs of both employees and visitors," explains Nicolas Delaire, systems and networks manager at France Televisions Publicite.

At the end of the selection phase, France Televisions Publicite opted for the Trapeze WLAN Mobility System proposed by Silicomp Reseaux. A Trapeze integration solutions partner for more than three years, Silicomp Reseaux is a specialist in telecommunications, project management and technical support for operational infrastructures.

Capable of fulfilling all of France Televisions Publicite's requirements, the Trapeze WLAN Mobility System combines advanced security and encryption The reversible transformation of data from the original (the plaintext) to a difficult-to-interpret format (the ciphertext) as a mechanism for protecting its confidentiality, integrity and sometimes its authenticity. Encryption uses an encryption algorithm and one or more encryption keys.  with Identity-Based Networking. It also integrates planning, monitoring, deployment and administration functions to support ongoing WLAN maintenance.

The initial stage of the project was launched at the beginning of 2004. The WLAN infrastructure is based on an MX-8 Mobility Exchange(TM) switch and six 802.11a/b/g Mobility Point(TM) (MP) dual radios. The WLAN provides wireless access in six main meeting rooms at France Televisions Publicite and has introduced greater flexibility into the work environment. Employees make full use of the mobility provided by the WLAN, which has delivered significant productivity improvements.

The second stage of WLAN deployment focused on providing public access. This was an essential step for France Televisions Publicite, which promotes and develops its brand image as that of a company at the cutting edge of technology.

The IT department at France Televisions Publicite contacted various hotspot vendors, but preferred not to provide visitors with a fee-based service. The goal was to offer Internet and extranet access, plus a POP messaging service. Two Trapeze MPs were deployed for this purpose. One was installed for the reception area and basement and another was installed for a large room on the fifth floor, where important conferences and board meetings are held.

"It is also an audio-visual room that acts as a technological showcase for a complete range of technologies, of which Wi-Fi now forms an integral part. Our external partners and the public are pleased to be able to access the web and messaging services," said Delaire. "The high level of security offered by the Trapeze switch impressed us. We were able to bring the MPs transmitter power under control without delay, enabling us to limit access to a defined area."

The Trapeze Mobility System allows users to connect directly to the WLAN after visiting the reception area upon arrival. The receptionist generates a temporary user name and password at a workstation, which is validated by the Trapeze MX switch. When connecting to the WLAN, the user simply enters the codes to start browsing.

"Our objective was to identify a wireless solution that meets the security and mobility requirements of France Televisions Publicite, while simplifying day-to-day administrative procedures," concluded Delaire. "The wireless network had to meet the needs of our sales teams and provide access to visitors without compromising the security of our internal infrastructure. With Trapeze, there were no real surprises. The reaction of the public and employees has been very positive."
