The company was founded as Silicon Graphics, Inc., but changed to its acronym in 1999. ). SGI currently ships QuickTransit on its Silicon Graphics Prism(TM) visualization system and will now include the software on its deskside and SGI(R) Altix(R) high-end server platforms. QuickTransit, which Transitive launched in September 2004, allows software applications compiled for one processor and operating system to run on another processor and operating system without any source code or binary changes.

"Our successes with SGI illustrates how QuickTransit can dramatically ease the migration to a new computing platform by providing immediate availability of ISV and customer-written applications," said Bob Wiederhold, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Transitive Corporation. "QuickTransit's ability to meet the performance demands of state-of-the art, high-end computing platforms allowed us to expand our support to encompass the entire range of SGI's Itanium 2-based products."

"QuickTransit software on SGI's server and visualization systems allows our customers to benefit immediately from improved performance, but more importantly, access to an expansive list of available software applications," said Dave Parry, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Server and Platform Group, SGI. "Additionally, QuickTransit offers our legacy customers a fast migration path to our new Linux OS-based systems. End-user customers can consolidate all IRIX A Unix-based operating system from SGI that is used in its computer systems from desktop to supercomputer. Transitive announced its support for the Silicon Graphics Prism visualization system in October of 2004 and is now expanding its application support to include the entire SGI Intel Itanium 2-based product line, which includes Silicon Graphics Prism visualization system for Linux(R), Silicon Graphics Prism Deskside visualization system and SGI Altix high-performance computing High-speed computing, which typically refers to supercomputers used in scientific research.  (HPC (Handheld PC) A palmtop computer that weighs less than one pound and runs specialized versions of popular applications. With QuickTransit as a component on these new systems users can transparently run any application that currently runs on SGI legacy systems based on the MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. QuickTransit software is currently shipping to customers as a component of the Silicon Graphics Prism family of visualization systems. SGI expects to begin shipping QuickTransit on the SGI Altix line of servers during Q3 2005. About Transitive Corporation

Transitive Corporation is a pioneer and leader in providing solutions that allow the transportability of software applications across multiple hardware platforms Each hardware platform, or CPU family, has a unique machine language. All software presented to the computer for execution must be in the binary coded machine language of that CPU. Following is a list of the major hardware platforms in existence today. See platform. . The company's hardware virtualization technology allows software applications that have been compiled for one processor/operating system to run on another without any source code or binary changes and at speeds comparable to native ports. The technology dramatically reduces software developers' cost, risk, and time-to-market of supporting multiple hardware platforms; facilitates OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  customers' migration to new platforms; and makes significantly more software available on hardware platforms.
