When Lucinda Childs' Dance premiered at BAM Bam (bäm), town (1996 pop. 70,100), Kerman prov., SE Iran, on the intermittent Bam River. Located on the western edge of the Dasht-e Lut, Bam is a trade center in a henna-growing region. Dates and other fruits are also grown; camels are raised. in 1979, it

(film/decor), and Childs. In the stripped-clown choreography, dancers
synchronize with their ghosted projections, sometimes dwarfed, other
times paralleled or doubled by the images. The repeating patterns of
dance, music, and image ultimately lead toward a state of transcendence.
Dance will have a rare remounting this summer at Bard SummerScape,
followed by performances in the fall at Williams College, the University
