TransChip camera chip built into Analog Devices' Softfone GSM/GPRS Platform.

TransChip Inc., a developer of single chip camera solutions for multimedia-enabled devices, has announced it has integrated a single chip camera into Analog Devices' SoftFone GSM/GPRS Platform.

TransChip will be demonstrating its single chip camera solution at the Israel Mobile Association brokerage event at 3GSM World Congress, Martinez Hotel Cannes. Development systems containing a prototype of TransChip's miniature camera will be on display at Analog Devices' booth, Hall 2, Stand D52.

Integrating camera modules into mobile phones is the single largest technological challenge facing today's handset manufacturers. TransChip's single chip camera solution has been incorporated into Analog Devices' SoftFone platform, significantly shortening handset manufacturers' time to market by equipping them with a fully integrated imaging solution, whose small solution size and seamless interface with any host processor and LCD screen significantly lowers their manufacturing costs.

"TransChip's single chip camera solution overcomes a major integration hurdle," explained Christian Kermarrec, vice president of Analog Devices' RF and Wireless Systems Business Unit. "Analog Devices Analog Devices (NYSE: ADI) is an American multinational producer of semiconductor devices. Analog specializes in ADC, DAC, MEMS, and DSP chips for consumer and industrial goods. Analog is presently designing circuits in the 65 nanometer to 3 µm process feature sizes range.  is impressed by the speed of integration of TransChip's power-efficient, end-to-end imaging solution for cellular handsets, allowing Analog Devices customers to benefit from a rapid ramp-up to camera enabled devices."

"Our cooperation with Analog Devices has resulted in a compelling solution for handset manufacturers worldwide," commented Dr. Viktor Ariel, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of TransChip. "The flexibility of our TC5640 in terms of programmability and integration illustrates how a mobile handset can be converted into a camera phone in a matter of days and we look forward to further design successes with Analog Devices in this critical and exciting market."

TC5600 is a complete, shrink wrap single chip camera including image sensor An image sensor is a device that converts a visual image to an electric signal. It is used chiefly in digital cameras and other imaging devices. It is usually an array of charge-coupled devices (CCD) or CMOS sensors such as active-pixel sensors. , programmable image processor and real-time JPEG JPEG

The chip includes complex algorithms to ensure picture perfect images even in problematic lighting settings. The camera interface also supports scaling and formatting of the YUV The color encoding system used for analog television worldwide (NTSC, PAL and SECAM). The YUV color space (color model) differs from RGB, which is what the camera captures and what humans view.  or RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. The camera chip is packaged as a miniature module on a flex cable.
