:TXCC TXCC Transwitch Corporation (stock symbol) ), announced today the introduction of the E1FX8, an eight-channel E1 framer designed for voice and data communications applications.

The E1FX8 joins the T1FX8, an eight-channel DS1/J1 framer, and TranSwitch's group of quad framers, QT1F-Plus and QE1F-Plus to round out the Company's framer family. The octal framers, along with the quad framers are targeted to provide end-to-end solutions for multipurpose voice and data networking applications such as ATM multiplexers, frame relay systems, SONET/SDH add-drop multiplexers, DS1 or E1 monitoring equipment, Internet access equipment with T1/E1 and fractional T1/E1 ports, Computer Telephony Integration Computer Telephony Integration - Computer Telephone Integration  products and digital crossconnect applications.

Like the companion T1FX8, the E1FX8 is an eight-channel E1 framer that uses a single 3.3V power supply, with 5.0V tolerant I/Os. Its low power consumption and extensive on-chip support of many functions make the E1FX8 ideal for high density and highly featured applications. These octal framers are true off line framers, with all terminal side options available per channel.

In addition to incorporating all the features of the quad E1 framer, the E1FX8 framer supports both the frame alignment detection and loss of frame declaration compliant with ITU-T See ITU.

Interworking depends crucially on standards to define the interfaces between the components.  ITAAB ITAAB ISDN Technical Advisory Ad Hoc Board  Advisory No.075. It provides E1 monitor, reference clock and LIU control, on board AMI or HDB3 codecs and code violation counters, fractional E1 is supported with an auxiliary input plus gapped clock or marker outputs, and an intact mode to slip buffer non standard E1 signals. The E1Fx8 has transmit and receive slip buffers and receive de-jitter buffers. Local, line remote, payload remote and time slot loopbacks (both local and remote) are provided. ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.  T1.231 fractional T1 compatible loopback support is provided for single operator fractional T1 or E1 testing through a gateway. An auxiliary port with a time slot interchanger is provided for applications, such as V5.1 and V5.2 or ISDN PRI support.

The E1Fx8 supplies the most complete alarm and performance monitoring. For example, enhanced national bit support is provided for ISDN ISDN

The microprocessor interface is compatible with the Motorola or Intel series of microprocessors for applications such as monitoring the performance of many lines or dial pulse detection/collection. Monitoring of any E1 transmit or receive path with a frame pulse provides a bussed test access for Channelized Refers to an architecture that transmits data in channels.  applications where an individual E1 signal is not directly available. Direct LIU control by the microprocessor eliminates external components. The quad framers and the octal framers support JTAG compliant boundary scan (IEEE 1149.1) to simplify manufacturing testability.

According to Steve Lam, Product Manager at TranSwitch Corporation, "With this announcement, we are rounding out our framer family. When communications and networking system OEMs select TranSwitch's framer products, they expect that these devices will reduce life cycle costs and improve time-to-market for their products. The key features of the devices include diagnostic, test and maintenance functions, and the devices are also compliant with the worldwide standards, ANSI, ETSI and ITU."

Design support packages for the entire framer lineup include evaluation boards, reference designs, BSDL files, device drivers, and full applications support from TranSwitch - all the essentials needed to accelerate customers' time-to-market.
