device that supports the requirements of next-generation access systems by offering more functionality, flexibility and on-chip intelligence than any comparable solution in the market today.

The ECLIPSE, the latest device in TranSwitch's family of broadband multi-service VLSI solutions, provides a very high-level of integration and functionality. The device integrates an M13 multiplexer including a DS3 framer with full C-bit functionality to support clear-channel DS3; a 28-channel DS1 framer, a 28-channel DS1 cross-connect, a 672-channel DS0 cross-connect for grooming, concentration, switching and multiplexing; and a MVIP (MultiVendor Integration Protocol) A voice bus and switching protocol developed by Natural Microsystems, Natick, MA, and others. Used to build call center equipment using regular PCs, MVIP provides a second communications bus within the computer that can  and H.100/H.110 interface. In addition, an embedded high-performance on-chip RISC processor, provides flexible and programmable control to the device. The ECLIPSE offers an optimal cost/performance point and unmatched space and power efficiency - a critical advantage in designing systems to accommodate the exploding network growth.

The powerful RISC processor in the ECLIPSE significantly reduces software integration and management issues by running TranSwitch programmed device drivers. The software interface to the ECLIPSE is a high-level structured Application Program Interface (API), which significantly reduces the application development time and load on the customer's host thereby accelerating time to market and increased functionality for system OEMs. The RISC processor also handles important network management elements such as device initialization in·i·tial·ize

"We are very excited about the introduction of the ECLIPSE product, the first, in a planned series of bandwidth management service processor solutions from TranSwitch. The high-level of integration in conjunction with the firmware running on the RISC and the API bring a complete DS3/DS1/DS0 access solution that system OEMs can simply invoke, rather than create," said Nick Taluja, Senior Product Marketing Manager at TranSwitch Corporation.

The ECLIPSE is priced at $148 per unit in one thousand unit quantities with samples available in Q1, 2001. The ECLIPSE is provided in a small footprint (27mm by 27mm) ball grid array “BGA” redirects here. For other uses, see BGA (disambiguation).
