Microbia is in the process of enrolling patients for their two current Phase II dose-ranging studies A dose-ranging study is a clinical trial where different doses of an agent (e.g. a drug) are tested against each other to establish which dose works best and/or is least harmful.

Dose-ranging is usually a phase I or early phase II clinical trial.
. The Cambridge, MA-based pharmaceutical company had recognized that the combination of document folders, databases and spreadsheets that they had successfully utilized to manage the earlier phases of their trials would not adequately scale for subsequent phases, and therefore conducted a thorough search for a suitable solution.

Designed for the unique needs of small- to mid-sized life sciences companies, the TranSenda CTMS was fully deployed at Microbia in March of 2007. TranSenda's CTMS will enable Microbia to take control of their trials using a collaborative web-based system that provides a central repository for the uniform tracking of key clinical processes and tasks, significantly reducing the manual requirements of study management and increasing employee effectiveness.

"We chose TranSenda as our partner for CTMS because their product provides the functionality and flexibility to allow us to efficiently manage our clinical operations now, where most of our studies are outsourced, and in the future, where we expect to manage more studies internally," stated Kevin Durfee, Director of Information Technology at Microbia. "With TranSenda we were able to cost effectively implement a CTMS solution that will allow us to expand our functionality as our business expands. We've started with the core CTMS functions for tracking study details, site information, monitoring activities, and patient enrollment, and expect to grow the CTMS solution by adding on additional functional modules such as the CTMS Dashboard, Payment Tracker, and Safety Event modules as our needs grow. Since the platform has been designed to be completely modular, we can leverage our investment and speed the implementation of new functions.

"As a smaller life science company with two very promising candidates in clinical trials, our clinical team is extraordinarily busy. The TranSenda CTMS is improving the efficiency with which we manage our trials, allowing our clinical staff to spend more time working with our CROs and sites on the most important issues of study execution and enrollment, and less time managing paperwork and administrative details related to the study. We expect the TranSenda CTMS to provide a big boost to our productivity."

"TranSenda is very pleased to have formed a charter partnership with Microbia for our Clinical Trial Management System," said Bob Webber, President & CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of TranSenda. "We've designed our integrated modular products to be attractive alternatives to spreadsheets and existing clinical trial software designed for large pharmaceuticals. Companies such as Microbia can now automate their processes with streamlined solutions that have the flexibility to grow along with their needs."

TranSenda also announced plans to develop companion products for CTMS, including a CTMS Dashboard that will provide users with a view of actual progress and milestones, along with projections of key trial metrics. A second companion product, Payment Tracking Manager will streamline the management of clinical site payments based on achieved milestones as well as study- and site-specific terms. Both of these applications are expected to be available in the fall of 2007.
