Tracked by the JCM.Lockheed Martin demonstrated the maturation of its Joint Common Missile trimode seeker with the successful acquisition and track of a tactical littoral target during a series of tests conducted in Florida. During the 125 trial runs the seeker acquired and tracked a Boghammar vessel moving at 30 knots at ranges between one and six km--the Swedish Boghammar patrol boat is representative of a typical patrol craft that war fighters would likely encounter in hostile littoral waters. The tests demonstrated simultaneous detection and processing by two of the missile's three sensors: the imaging infrared (I2R) and the millimetre wave radar. Target profiles included crossing, diagonal, in- and outbound, rectangular race-track, turntable, orbiting in small circles and evasive manoeuvres. The JCM's third seeker is a semi-active laser, which gives the missile precision strike capabilities. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] |
