Business Editors

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 2002

Dozens of government officials and executives from international aviation and business organizations will voice their concerns about five issues threatening Miami-Dade's economic vitality at a Town Hall Meeting to be held Wednesday, October 23, 2002 from 2-5 p.m. at the Radisson Mart Plaza Hotel The Plaza Hotel in New York City is a landmark 19-story luxury hotel with a height of 250 feet (76 m) and length of 400 feet that (122 m) occupies the west side of Grand Army Plaza, from which it derives its name, and extends along Central Park South in Manhattan.  Ballroom.

The five issues are a particular threat to Miami International Airport's (MIA MIA

2. Immediate need to increase U.S. Immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important.  and Naturalization naturalization, official act by which a person is made a national of a country other than his or her native one. 5. Expedite the issuance of I.D. badges for air cargo employees

Thousands of jobs are at stake. The negative effects are already being felt. For instance, five flight training facilities situated just north of the airport have seen a 30% decrease within the last year in enrollment of foreign pilots who have been coming to Miami-Dade for years to get their training. Their business, and the local economic impact generated by their extended visits, is being lost to countries in Europe and Canada.

At the "Aviation: Industry in Crisis" Meeting, industry professionals will offer factual evidence to support the need for immediate action, and the impact that a lack of action could have on our community's economy and its position as the "Aviation, Trade and Logistics Center of the Americas." Among the scheduled speakers are Miami-Dade Aviation Director Angela Gittens; Arrow Air President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization.
