Towards a PKI.
The General Services Administration (GSA) has given preliminary
approval to one of three vendors to begin supplying the government
agency with digital certificates in its quest to build a public key
infrastructure and comply with the Government Paperwork Elimination Act.
The Digital Signature Trust Company and other vendors that maintain
compliance under a contract awarded last fall will provide
identification, authentication, and nonrepudiation via digital signature
technology as a means for individuals and business entities to be
authenticated when accessing, retrieving, and submitting information
with the government. Final approval is expected in the fall.
