Tough enough? (Letters).

Paul Glastris's article "Why Can't the Democrats Get Tough?" (March 2002) was an extraordinary analysis of the death of democracy in this country. The Democratic Party has lost its focus, and its most formidable members are fawning fawn 1

What a marvelous thought, that Bill Clinton would take on the opposition and become the standard bearer an officer of an army, company, or troop, who bears a standard; - commonly called color sergeantor color bearer; hence, the leader of any organization; as, the standard bearer of a political party s>.

someone said these things and said them loudly. Thank you. The party needs new leadership, period. Someone who is prepared to get his/her hands dirty and who is prepared to kick some ass. We need a general who develops a party strategy and who will read the riot act to these wimps when they cannot find the backbone to speak up. We need our own strongman, and Tom Daschle ain't it. We should get rid of the entire current party leadership. We Democrats need our own Giuliani. Our own Gingrich. I'll never forget that the first person to call on Al Gore to throw in the towel after the Supreme Court ruling was Ed Rendell-- the Chairman of the Democratic Party. And now he wants to be a governor. Where on earth do we find these people?

This is not going to change until Daschle, Gephardt, and the rest resign their leadership positions. Since that is futile to expect, I'm afraid we must live with this a little while longer. You have the pulpit, though, from which to create a grassroots campaign to drive these wimps out.

This is one odious bit of claptrap, special pleading SPECIAL PLEADING. The allegation of special or new matter, as distinguished from a direct denial of matter previously alleged on the opposite side. Gould on Pl. c. 1, s. 18; Co. Litt. 282; 3 Wheat. R. 246 Com. Dig. Pleader, E 15.  and willful ignorance. No sane, fair observer of political events in this country since the Hoover administration could possibly fail to recognize that, while there is a noisome whiff to politics in general, it is the Democrats who lead the field in character assassination, vote fraud, corruption, mean-spiritedness, and sheer stupidity. This would be outrageous if it were a) in some media where someone would pay some attention b) not so obviously another death throe throe
