Totimoshi.

FIRST TIME I SAW Totimoshi I nearly fell off my bar stool bar stool nBarhocker m . Then I got off it, to get closer to the big noise that was kicking the shit outta my soul.  that can only be killed by tunes of the most intense magnitude. Singer Antonio Aguilar delivers cheese when he's not touring. It must be hard to find a good pizza in the Bay Area because Aguilar and his wife, Meg Castellanos, who plays bass in Totimoshi, have dragged a drummer (they've had seven since they started) with them across the country like 8,000 times in the last few years. They're probably coming to a town near you right now. Go check Totimoshi.com. Their album ?Mysterioso? has just been re-released by Crucial Blast records, but they are without a permanent home. If you own a label, do the world a favor and sign them, distribute them, and back them. People need this more than cheese.

So, how did Totimoshi come about?

Me and Meg started the band in 1997. I was in a band called Uncle Bad and I was looking to do my own music because I wasn't allowed to write in that band. So I started writing music and I couldn't really find anybody to play music with, so I just started showing Meg, who was my girlfriend at the time. I started showing her bass lines and she picked them up really well. Since then we've gone through seven drummers This is a list of drummers, mostly in the fields of metal, rock, and jazz.

How is it playing in a band with your wife? Are there pluses and minuses?

I really dig it, man, because when you tour it's like you're not really leaving your life behind. It's a lot easier for me, anyways an·y·ways

You must really like being on the road.

I like it. I would like it better if I could do it for a living. Right now, it's just something that we love to do.

How did you get hooked up to tour with the Melvins?

Weil, Meg knows Dale Crover Dale Crover is an American rock musician. Crover is best known as the drummer for The Melvins, The Men of Porn, and, for a brief time, Nirvana. He is also guitarist and vocalist for Altamont.  and they had a band who couldn't do the opening slot for them anymore, so they called us. We had just played a show with The Men of Porn up in Humbolt, and Dale was playing drums with them. We hung out then. He was a really nice guy.

How did the Melvins' fans like you?

It seems like it was a really good mix. The Melvins are a huge influence on us for sure. They're awesome. To see them every night was fuckin' really amazing a·maze

Any crazy tour stories from that one?

No. Really. Those guys are totally, super, super professional, and just all about the music. They'll get to a club really early and hang out and make sure everything gets ready and everything's done. It's great to see a band like them, or like Helmet, who we also toured with, to see how they work. Everything revolves around the show. It's about getting to the place early, getting everything squared away, getting your equipment ready and meditating and making sure you have a good show.

So what does the name Totimoshi mean?

My mom, she kind of makes stories up and she was telling me this story about my grandmother trying to speak English--she only spoke Spanish--but when she tried to speak English they called it "Totimoshi." I wrote that down because I thought it was funny. I thought it was cool, because my mom just made it up and she's such a storyteller that I wanted to include her in the music somehow.
