This book is a very inexpensive and easy-to-understand commentary on the papal encyclical encyclical, originally, a pastoral letter sent out by a bishop, now a solemn papal letter, meant to inform the whole church on some particular matter of importance. Benedict XIV circulated the first known encyclical in 1740.  Humanae vitae, written by Pope Paul VI Pope Paul VI (Latin: Paulus PP. VI; Italian: Paolo VI), born Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini (September 26, 1897 – August 6, 1978), reigned as Pope of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of Vatican City from 1963 to 1978.  in 1968, which deals with marriage and children. It, or its equivalent, is absolutely necessary reading for Catholics before marriage, especially in engaged or marriage preparation courses. It or its equivalent should be read also in Secondary School Family Life courses. The importance of its subject matter is so important that every adult Catholic should be familiar with it.
