Total Parts Plus, an online component management company, announced plans to supply component content information in compliance with the new Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directives The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) is the European Community directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment which, together with the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC, became European Law in February 2003, setting collection,  (WEEE WEEE Waste from Electric and Electronic Equipment (directive)

Beginning July 1, 2006, The Restriction on the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (ROHS) will ban electrical and electronic equipment with hazardous materials such as lead and cadmium cadmium (kăd`mēəm) [from cadmia, Lat. for calamine, with which cadmium is found associated], metallic chemical element; symbol Cd; at. no. 48; at. wt. 112.41; m.p. 321°C;; b.p. 765°C;; sp. gr. 8. . This new standard is designed to reduce the dangerous chemical waste arising from the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment.

"We have been preparing for the new standards coming into effect and have already started comprising a database to support all requirements of the WEEE standards listing," said Total Parts Plus Director of Operations, Todd Montgomery. "Our intention is to support material information that is not limited to just "lead-free" but also the other 5 banned chemicals and 14 reportable chemicals."

Europe will implement the standard in 2006, tailed closely by China and Japan, with the U.S. expected to follow suit. The component content service will eventually be implemented into an individual service that will cater to the specific needs of customers and include information on all materials.
