Toshiba Introduces New 1.8-Inch Hard Disk Drives Specially Designed for the Consumer Electronics Market.


Who:        Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD)

What:       Announces a 1.8-inch hard disk drive (HDD) with special
            features to accommodate the unique needs of consumer
            electronics (CE) devices.

Features:   Reduced footprint vs. Toshiba's current 1.8-inch HDD
            (see table below)

            --  Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) connector common for
                CE devices
            --  Robust capacity - available in 30GB and 60GB
            --  Appropriate for use in MP3 players, PDAs, GPS
                navigation units and other CE products

When:       Toshiba's full line of CE 1.8-inch HDD's will ship in
            late 2005.

Background: With more than 14 million units shipped worldwide since
            2000, Toshiba's 1.8-inch HDD sets the industry standard
            for HDDs in the CE space and commands an 85 percent market
            share in the 1.8-inch form factor, according to research
            firms IDC(a) and Gartner(b). Toshiba is continually
            working to develop new technologies that meet the needs of
            the CE industry, and its latest 1.8-inch HDD model gives
            the CE industry a new HDD option for product designs.
