Toshiba Introduces 14-Inch Diagonal Widescreen Lightweight Consumer Notebook; Weighing Under 5.3 Pounds, Satellite M55 Series Offers Portable Productivity and Multimedia Performance.


IRVINE, Calif. -- Toshiba's Digital Products Division, a division of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. and provider of industry-leading portable computers, projectors and other mobile-related services and products celebrating Toshiba's 20th anniversary of the first mass-marketed laptop computer, today announced the Satellite(R) M55 series, an affordable 14-inch diagonal widescreen See wide screen.  notebook PC that weighs under 5.3 pounds(1) and is perfect for students and other consumers who want on-the-go productivity and multimedia performance.

The Satellite M55 series is available in attractive peacock peacock or peafowl, large bird of the genus Pavo, in the pheasant family, native to E Asia. There are two main species, the common (Pavo cristatus), and the Javanese (P.  blue. Two additional colors - sunlight copper and mist gray - will be available from ToshibaDirect.com later this month as the Satellite M50 series. The Satellite M55 series notebook features include:

--a 14-inch WXGA (Wide XGA) A wide screen resolution of 1366x768 pixels. See PC display modes.

--DVD SuperMulti Double Layer drive compatible with current DVD formats There are several competing DVD Formats: Non-recordable formats
  • DVD-ROM: These are pressed similarly to CDs. The reflective surface is silver or gold colored.
 that nearly doubles a recordable DVD's storage capacity in DVD+R (DVD+Recordable) A write-once (read only) version of the DVD+RW optical disc from the DVD+RW Alliance. DVD+Rs hold up to 4.7GB of data per side and can be read by DVD-Video players and computer DVD-ROM drives. A DVD+R DL disc is a "dual layer" DVD+R that holds a total of 8.5GB.  format;

--5400 rpm hard drive(2) for faster access to stored files;
