Toshiba's Aquilion LB CT Offers Industry's Largest Bore and Widest Field-of-View.

CHICAGO -- Leading the development of diagnostic imaging technologies that aid in the diagnosis of cancer, Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. (TAMS) today announced that the Aquilion(TM) Large Bore (LB) will be featured at this year's Radiological Society of North America's (RSNA) annual meeting, held Nov. 27-Dec. 2 at McCormick Place in Chicago. The system will be displayed and demonstrated in Toshiba's booth #7114 in the North Building, Hall B. The company's new large-bore, multislice computed tomography (CT) scanner delivers superior patient positioning with unmatched image quality and clinical performance.

The Aquilion LB, which received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) marketing clearance this summer, was recently installed at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston -- the first recipient of the system. The new system provides maximum patient positioning flexibility with unparalleled access to the patient.

According to Doug Ryan, director of the CT Business Unit at TAMS, the Aquilion LB allows imaging departments to immediately take advantage of Toshiba's award-winning CT technologies in a large-bore platform.

With the industry's largest bore opening of 90 cm and a 70 cm acquired field-of-view, the Aquilion LB makes it possible to accurately scan patients of all sizes in various positions for unparalleled image acquisition.

In addition, the new QuantumPLUS detector's acquired field-of-view is 40 percent greater than other large-bore CT systems. This larger field-of-view covers more diagnostic anatomy with greater accuracy for improved diagnosis and treatment.

Building on Toshiba's Quantum multi-row detector, the most sophisticated CT detector commercially available for high-speed, high-resolution imaging with the lowest noise, the QuantumPLUS detector features additional channels that provide for the 70 cm large field-of-view. The QuantumPLUS detector is the only detector to provide three different slice-width acquisitions, enabling the Aquilion LB CT to acquire isotropic images in all anatomical planes while achieving the industry's best low-contrast resolution using the lowest dose.
