The disc's peak is back-to-back takes on "Moon River," sounding like a lost Vince Guaraldi Vince Guaraldi (July 17, 1928 – February 6, 1976) was an American jazz musician and pianist best known for composing music for animated adaptations of the Peanuts comic strip. Guaraldi was born in San Francisco, California. piece, and "Baby, It's Cold Outside," liberated here from Christmas-disc hell. Ryan does a fine job on the latter, but while it's not a competition, duet partner Kim Nalley wins. Great at the light and comic, Ryan has difficulty keeping the fun out of his delivery, so the more serious numbers like "Down With Love" and "I've Never Been in Love Before" don't quite hold up. He should take another pass at them after a few more heartbreaks. |
