) - Toray Industries Toray Industries, Inc. (東レ株式会社 Tōre Kabushiki-gaisha  will expand its production capacity of TORAYCA, its proprietary PAN-based carbon fiber, in Europe. Specifically, the company will reinforce production facilities at its French subsidiary Societe des Fibres de Carbone S Car´bone

Toray plans to build a firing line with an annual output capacity of 800 tons at SOFICAR's production facilities. The new line is scheduled to go into operation in August 2007.

Through this means, the production capacity of carbon fiber at SOFICAR will be increased to 3,400 tons annually, boosting the Toray Group's capacity to 13,900 tons annually.

The aim of this production expansion is to respond to a growing demand for fine carbon fibers for industrial use. As of 2005, global demand for PAN-based carbon fibers is about 25,000 tons and is expected to rise to 34,000 tons by 2008.
