DNA Chip co-developed that technology with the Research Institute of Genome-Based Biofactory of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (産業技術総合研究所 .

Initially, the partners will introduce two types of DNA chips for research. Specifically, they aim to commercialize a comprehensive chip that will carry all genes of yeast (nearly 6,000 genes) in April 2006. Subsequently, they will market a comprehensive chip that will carry 10,000 to 30,000 human genes.

Further, Toray and DNA Chip Research will proceed with research with a view to developing DNA chips for diagnosis of diseases, especially cancer and life-style related diseases, within two years. The two companies expect the DNA chip market to reach 100 billion yen ($833 mil) ten years from now.
