Top three highest tax payers in country belong to salaried class.
ISLAMABAD, 09 April ,2009 (Balochistan Times) --The salaried class is contributing immensely in the national exchequer as top three highest tax payers in the country belong to that class, Member Inland Revenue Federal Board of Revenue Irfan Nadeem said Thursday. Talking to CNBC channel he declined to give the names of highest individual tax payers belonging to salaried class. He said FBR plans to broaden the tax collection base. Big businessmen especially wholesalers should contribute more. Various teams of FBR have detected that about one million registered tax payers from across the country are not paying their taxes or filing returns despite having national tax numbers, he said. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) intends to target them and persuaded to contribute in national exchequer. Tax to GDP ratio would be enhanced upto 15 percent from current around 9.6 percent within a period of next five years, he said. The FBR has already collected Rs 810 billion plus tax in last eight months as comparing to Rs 706 billion during the last years corresponding period. However the last three months would be relatively difficult as far as achieving tax collection targets of Rs 1360 billion upto June 2009 as economy was already in depression, he added.
