BEIRUT: Caretaker Prime Minister Fouad Siniora chaired a meeting on the country's prisons on Thursday, after a dramatic attempted breakout by Fatah al-Islam militants from Roumieh Prison last week. Siniora, Interior Minister Ziyad Baroud, Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar and senior security officials attended the meeting at the Grand Serail. After the meeting, Baroud said a "good and constructive" discussion had taken place on the topic of improving prison conditions "on more than one front, especially in terms of logistics, by improving the conditions of [prison] buildings, and in terms of speeding up trials, to prevent any problems that might happen in the future." -- The Daily Star
