Top electrical engineer.

A LIVERPOOL university graduate has been named amongst the top 10 electrical engineers in the country.

Sir Robin Saxby, founder of microchip manufacturer Arm Holdings, was listed alongside the chairman of Motorola and the vice chancellor vice chancellor

The entrepreneur, who graduated from Liverpool University in the late 1960s, was awarded a knighthood knighthood: see chivalry; courtly love; knight.  earlier this year for his services to the information technology industry.

Sir Robin set up Oxfordbased Arm holdings after leaving university to license chip technology to manufacturers making components for television set-top boxes and mobile phones.

Sir Robin, who is also a non-executive director of telecoms company Glotel, donated pounds 1.5m to the university in 2000 for the construction of a new multimedia laboratory.
