The Industry Standard Expands Print and Online Coverage

with National and International Recruits from Newsweek,

Standard Media International ("The Standard") announced that it has appointed Richard Turner The name Richard Turner may mean:

 bureau chief and executive editor and Sharon Walsh as deputy New York bureau chief of The Industry Standard. These two key hires join a number of recent recruits who will further strengthen the burgeoning print magazine and its online counterpart, TheStandard.com.

Turner joins The Industry Standard from Newsweek, where he most recently served as the senior editor of the Society section, producing features on health, medicine, sports, religion, education and social issues. During his four-year tenure at Newsweek, Turner also wrote about media, business and technology. Prior to Newsweek, he was an editor-at-large for NEW YORK, where he penned the media column, and before that, served as a national reporter for The Wall Street Journal, covering the entertainment industry. Turner succeeds James Ledbetter, who was named editor-in-chief of The Industry Standard's European edition, which will launch in the fall.

Walsh comes to The Industry Standard from The Washington Post, where she was a financial correspondent in the New York bureau. Before that, as the Post's financial investigative reporter in Washington, she covered white-collar crime white-collar crime, term coined by Edward Sutherland for nonviolent crimes committed by corporations or individuals such as office workers or sales personnel (see white-collar workers) in the course of their business activities. . Turner's appointment is the latest in a series of major editorial hires. Yamada, formerly of Reuters, as Tokyo correspondent; and Joanne Young-Lee, formerly of The Asian Wall Street Journal, as Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov.  correspondent.

Other new members to The Industry Standard's team include: Hugh Garvey, formerly of The Village Voice, as senior editor of the Culture section; Dominic Gates as senior writer based in Seattle; Luke Mitchell Luke Muir Mitchell (born July 24th 1988) is the Scottish teenager convicted of murdering his girlfriend, Jodi Jones in June 2003.

On June 30, 2003, fourteen-year-old Jodi Jones was found brutally murdered in Dalkeith, Scotland.

In addition, Melanie Haiken, formerly of San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  and Parenting magazines, has been named executive editor for The Industry Standard's Grok To have a thorough understanding of a subject. The word comes from Robert Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land," and it means "to drink" in Martian. Of course. But more specifically in the book, it meant to take something in so thoroughly that it becomes part of you. , a monthly special report publication, hitting newsstands this August. Steven Zeitchik, formerly of Publisher's Weekly, has been named newsletter editor, overseeing The Standard's 19 online newsletters. Polly Traylor has been named senior editor of the New Gig newsletter. And Thomas Goetz, formerly East Coast news director for The Industry Standard, will be relocating to San Francisco to assume the position of executive news editor.

Formerly an editor and writer at The Village Voice, Garvey has covered books, publishing, culture, lifestyle and food for publications including GQ, Details, Vibe, Travel & Leisure, the Utne Reader Utne Reader is an American bimonthly magazine. The magazine collects and reprints articles from generally alternative media sources, including journals, newsletters, weeklies, zines, music, and DVDs. , Alternative Press, One World, Food Arts, Newsday and The Washington Post. He is a contributor to the forthcoming book the "Salon Reader's Guide to Contemporary Fiction."

Bruno Giussani, European Editor

Giussani recently produced The Standard's inaugural Global Internet Summit held in Barcelona, Spain. He currently writes an Internet column for The New York Times, and has been an award-winning political business reporter and editor with several newspapers and magazines in Europe. An entrepreneur who co-founded TiNet, one of the first Swiss Internet services companies, Giussani is a director of Internet strategy at the World Economic Forum and teaches at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology may refer to one of two institutes of higher education in Switzerland:

Polly Traylor, Senior Editor

With seven years' experience in business and high tech reporting, Traylor is currently senior editor for The Standard's online newsletter "New Gig". She came to The Standard from CIO CIO: see American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations.
